I was wandering the marina in Roche Harbor on a quiet, foggy day on San Juan Island. The harbor was still, almost lifeless, and I was ready to move on when, almost as if on cue, my ship arrived. It was the Spike Africa—a pristine vintage sailing vessel, full of character and history. In that moment, the weather, the harbor, and this remarkable ship aligned perfectly. I raised my camera, knowing I was about to capture something timeless.
