Finding Balanced Rock felt like chasing a myth. We had driven for miles through southern Idaho’s quiet high desert, surrounded by endless sagebrush and soft, rolling hills under an open sky. It was almost impossible to imagine something as dramatic as a 40-ton, gravity-defying rock standing guard in this gentle landscape. But then the earth dropped away into a rocky canyon, and there it was—Balanced Rock—rising 48 feet into the blue, delicately perched on a narrow pedestal, sculpted by time and wind into a natural monument of wonder. Capturing it with my lens felt like honoring nature’s own balancing act—raw, unlikely, and unforgettable.
